I LOVE orange julius. We make them at home periodically, in all their full fat glory. But when Roni posted this healthier variety that included spinach, I couldn’t resist trying it.
It’s DELICIOUS. I’m not saying it’s an exact knock-off but it’s so close you won’t care. And bonus? You’re getting a lots of fruits and veggies too! Roni was kind enough to post the nutrition stats on this one and it’s pretty good: 180 calories, 1g fat, 5g fiber, 39g of carbs, 8g of protein….and your entire daily recommended allowance of Vitamin A and C.
I’ve had these…oh…I don’t know… 6 times or so in the week since I discovered them. Delicious!
I started out making them with clementines, but if you can get good oranges, I think it tastes more authentic that way. And no – for the thousandth time – you CAN’T taste the spinach. I promise.
Green Orange Julius (Orange Vanilla Smoothie)
- 2 cups of raw spinach (I used 2 large handfuls)
- 3 small ripe clementines (or one navel orange)
- 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract (I put a little more in. I LOVE vanilla)
- 1/2 cup of skim milk (4 oz)
- About 6 ice cubes
Put all the ingredients except the ice in the blender. Blend until smooth. Add the ice and blend again. Serve immediately.
