The Happiness Project

Genre: Non-Fiction/Self Help(?)

Rating: StarStarStarStar(out of 5)

Review:

I don’t generally read a lot of non-fiction but the subtitle on this book caught my eye (Or, Why I Spent A Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean my Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle and Generally Have More Fun). It actually proved to be a very engaging book – the author’s first person account of her year of “scientifically” trying to be happier is interesting and flawed just enough for you to understand it. It feels like a close friend went through the process and is telling you about it. And it very quietly, and very subliminally, is a bit of a self help book. It encourages you to try new things, to re-look at how you treat your spouse and friends, and what you consider to be your hobbies. All in all, a great read. Others have thought so too – there are “moment of happiness” email lists that email you happiness quotes everyday, a full happiness project toolbox website, and many other perks that are a result of this book.

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1)

Genre: Paranormal Romance/Fantasy

Rating: StarStarStarStar(out of 5)

Review:

I seriously never read so many “romancy” novels until I got my Kindle. I have no idea why. These came recommended because they’re vampire based, which I generally enjoy, but they’re also rather, ahem, explicitly sexy, as well. Probably the most shameful part is I really enjoyed it. It’s well-written for what it is, and a perfect, quick, escapist read. Although certainly not for those with prude-like tendencies! These are pretty addicting as quick reads…good thing there are 9 of them!

Passion (Fallen, #3)

passion

Genre: Young Adult / Fantasy

Rating: StarStarStarStar(out of 5)

Review:

I read the first two books in this series in February and enjoyed them enough to pre-order the third book, which came out in July. This was a great quick read, but easily the best of these three books so far. I like the premise, and it’s interesting to read about angels instead of the standard fantasy objects like magicians or dragons or vampires. It’s a little fresher. Smile This book follows the cursed girl, Lucinda, through thousands of years worth of her previous lives to uncover the secret of her curse. A great read, and quick. I’ll be pre-ordering the fourth and final book as soon as it’s available.

Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2)

Review:

Toldja I liked these. I read the second one this month too! Honestly, the biggest thing that keeps me from just reading through all of them in a row is the fact that they only take me a couple of days, but they’re $7.99 a pop on my Kindle. That’s kinda pricey for an e-book in my opinion. If you’re not paying to print the damn thing, I think the price should be lower. Anyway…again, loved this one as well. Itching to read the third one, but I’ve been inserting other books in between my reads of these to slow down the $7.99 onslaught!
